I hear this all the time from soon to be retirees. The stock market will NOT go to zero. If you are invested in something that is wildly speculative, yes you could lose all.

But as long as people use their iPhones to order from Amazon using their Visa and Mastercard, those companies will be profitable for a long time.

If you are in a diversified portfolio, you will be fine over the long term.
